Photo Poetry on Birds Photography by Ravindra

Early morning chirps all around,
Different voices & different sounds,
Flocks of pigeons touring & racing,
Moving swaying with you all astound,
Love to watch u fly high,
Gives me hope to dream & try,
Coz stopping is not an option,
And whatever, however it is we ain’t cry.

Freedom
The hole, my nest was safe..
The food around kept me alive..
But being holed curbed my wings..
And taught me, surviving isn’t living..
I flew out, stretching my wings..
Now, I’ve the sky to soar and a life to live!

My entry to Cherry On Top, would love to highlight the details, that made viewing this photograph a good experience. I loved the reflections on the Samaya comming from yellow rangoli sand and orange flowers aside. You can use this simple rangoli pattern for borders around shapes like round, rectangular etc. Putting simple dots of rangoli around Samaya and using a match box stick has made it more beautiful!

For this week’s challenge, I took a moment a moment to look up. My first entry  this week. I can visualize and hear the story between building and the tree branches with sky in between them. Amazing scene for water colour painting. Hence converted digitally to water colour painting. Interestingly the month of July is being celebrated as Water Colour Month. Sanskar Bharti Rangoli Designs

India has a rich tradition of festivals and for festivals,  Rangoli Designs will be an integral part of celebrations. You can find many posts on Rangoli Designs on my blog like World’s Largest Rangoli. Making Rangoli Designs is a part Indian Culture and is being followed since many years. Basically Rangoli Designs are created using colours sand, flower petals, rice, flour etc. They are drawn on the floors, courtyards, grounds. One of the types of Rangoli is called as Sankar Bharti Rangoli. It is a the most popular in Maharashtra. On many occasions like Ganesha Festival, Diwali we create Sanskar Bharti Rangoli Designs.

How to draw Sanskar Bharti Rangoli

A very special technique is followed to draw Sanskar Bharti Rangoli Designs. It is drawn using either three or five fingers to create beautiful patterns and Curves. Sanskar Bharti Rangoli Design with five fingers is called as ‘Paach Boti’ meaning (Five Fingers). It has unique style to draw borders, circles, curves and patterns. You can search for many VDOs on Sanskar Bharti Designs for detailed procedures.

Stray birds of summer come to my window
to sing and fly away.
And yellow leaves of autumn,
which have no songs,
flutter and fall there with a sigh.

Endless Time

Time is endless in thy hands, my lord.
There is none to count thy minutes.

Days and nights pass and ages bloom and fade like flowers.
Thou knowest how to wait.

Thy centuries follow each other perfecting a small wild flower.

We have no time to lose,
and having no time we must scramble for a chance.
We are too poor to be late.

And thus it is that time goes by
while I give it to every querulous man who claims it,
and thine altar is empty of all offerings to the last.

At the end of the day I hasten in fear lest thy gate be shut;
but I find that yet there is time.

Chain of Pearls

Mother, I shall weave a chain of pearls for thy neck
with my tears of sorrow.

The stars have wrought their anklets of light to deck thy feet,
but mine will hang upon thy breast.

Wealth and fame come from thee
and it is for thee to give or to withhold them.
But this my sorrow is absolutely mine own,
and when I bring it to thee as my offering
thou rewardest me with thy grace.

Baby’s World Photo Poetry

Baby’s World

I wish I could take a quiet corner in the heart of my baby’s very
own world.
I know it has stars that talk to him, and a sky that stoops
down to his face to amuse him with its silly clouds and rainbows.
Those who make believe to be dumb, and look as if they never
could move, come creeping to his window with their stories and with
trays crowded with bright toys.
I wish I could travel by the road that crosses baby’s mind,
and out beyond all bounds;
Where messengers run errands for no cause between the kingdoms
of kings of no history;
Where Reason makes kites of her laws and flies them, the Truth
sets Fact free from its fetters.

Warli Art- Creative Backdrop For Birthday

One Love from the Indian Tribal Art- Warli. This has been demonstrated by Adivasi since ages. Noe it is quite popular and emerged as one of the forms of art. Artists like Jivya Mashe (Written about him in separate post: Jivya Mashe-Indian Warli Art) really took this art form of Warli to the world and at next level through his many national and international exhibitions. We tried this on 6 feet x 18 feet white clothe for a backdrop during the first birthday of my daughter Venu. Dung is applied on the clothe and then by using white colours the composition is illustrated. Me and my brother enjoyed while making this! This interesting method of preparing Warli is explained on D’source, IIT Bombay Website.

What is Fiori di Como

Fiori di Como installed in 1998 at Bellagio Resort, Las Vegas. The great art work by  Dale Chihuly, an American glass sculptor. His installations and art works are created by manual blown glass. Fiori Di Como is a ceiling sculpture of 2,000 hand-blown glass blossoms by Dale Chihuly that hangs in the Resort’s lobby! It covers about 2000 square feet of ceiling. We can imagine the volume of the work and number of people involved in making such a beautiful installation. Actual installation can experienced in a VDO on Fiori di Como on You tube.

Chihuly’s other artworks and installations can be found at his website and in a VDO there. We can visit the Chihuly Workshop, a place for experimentation, studio editions and publishing his artworks. Get some art and designs inspiration from Chihuly.

Five Inspirations from Stories of Ganesha

I have written this as Guest post on “A Writing Life for Me” a blog of Cindy E. Owens who is a poet, children’s writer, conjurer of short stories, and eclectic essay writer.

Stories of Ganesha

Lord of beginnings-Start Writing First

shree
Shree By R. K. Joshi

God of beginnings, Ganesha is worshiped at the start of every activity we initiate. Hence, Ganesha is also called as Prathamesh (Pratham-First and Ish-God), God of Firsts. On the beginning pages we write ‘Shree’, at the start, to honour the God of Beginnings.

It inspires us to start new things by beginning the worship to God. Any blogger has to take an action to make a blog first. Start writing first, then write, and keep on writing. Action is the only first step.

Ganesha- Broken Tusk-Dedication

Ganesha and Vyasa
Ganesha and Vyasa

I would like to share a story about Ganesha and His dedication to writing. Ganesha was a scribe for Mahabharata – Longest Epic of the World. He accepted Vyasa’s request for this task on a condition that Vyasa has to recite without a pause. Vyasa, the brilliant sage, also put a condition, Ganesha needed to write with understanding, every shloka (verse line). During the narration, Ganesha used to take some time in understanding difficult shlokas. Vyasa effectively used that time to compose next shlokas. At some point in time, while writing, the quill Ganesha had, got broken. He kept his promise by breaking his tusk and using it as quill. This was dedication of Lord Ganesha towards an assignment of writing.

Every blogger has this dedication to every post, every page they write. Again we need to write and write only with pure devotion.

Ganesha- Large Ears and Small Mouth – Speak less listen more

Large Ears and Small Mouth

There are various philosophical concepts attributed to each body part of Ganesha. His large ears and small mouth signify about speak less and listen more.

Every blogger has to spend more time in listening comments and reviews. They must spend little time in talking. By doing this, one can utilize his/her energy for doing more creative work, efficiently and effectively.

Ganesha-Obstacles remover-Remove Inner Obstacles

Ganesha is always having the rat in control. The rat symbolizes the distractions that trouble us. They will always pop up daily and time to time, we need to learn take a control of these.

Every blogger has to keep close watch on our distractions. One must try to keep control on these distractions.

Ganesha- Wisdom and knowledge-Increase your knowledge

Ganesha is also worshiped as Lord of Wisdom and Knowledge.

This inspires us to explore, and expand, the knowledge about the subject on which we are writing. The more knowledge and wisdom you have, the more readers will get attracted towards the contents of the blog. The well written post is the outcome of knowledge only. It may not be by an accident.

Hope every blogger will get inspired by this Panch-sutri, five things. May Lord Ganesha bless all the devotees!

Ganapti Bappa Moraya! Manal Moorti Moraya!

Padma awards for Design

Need to be thought on what A BALASUBRAMANIAM has said. I strongly support the point he has made in this post!

Design thoughts

Today’s list of Padma awards are out and there is no designer, still, in the list. I blogged about this, last year as well. The government finds it fit to recognise Ajay Devgn’s work as worthy of an award but not any of the design stalwarts, who used design to bring about long-lasting changes in society and the profession. To provoke a discussion on the subject, I present here, my list of Padma awards, deserving for design. This is of course, only the beginning. There may many more that I may have missed.

H Kumar Vyas, Design Educator, Ahmedabad kumarvyasH Kumar Vyas deserves a Padma award for pioneering Design education in this country and giving a distinct Indian touch to the curriculum that was launched at NID, when the design programmes began. He continues to influence and contribute to design education, through his books and research.

R K Laxman- A Common man-To laugh and make others laugh

Remembering R K Laxman

Today is 94th Birth anniversary of R K Laxman full name, Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Laxman oh!! Simply R K Laxman. An Indian cartoonist, illustrator, and humorist, R K Laxman  who created common man in 1951. Google pays tribute to R K Laxman by today’s Google Doodle on RK Laxman

His great work is compiled by his daughter in law Usha Laxman and granddaughter Rimanika Laxman. The website is online now, you can have a look at this online storyboard.

Great artist, who had Bal Thackeray as a fellow cartoonist, once said about his common man, “He’s been with me throughout my career. I did not find him. He found me… I would say he symbolises the mute millions of India, or perhaps the whole world, a silent spectator of marching time.”

10 rupeesWas just curious about how many languages are there on Indian notes. Here is some information extracted from RBI website for ten rupees note.

There are fifteen Indian languages on almost all notes, excluding English and Hindi. This clearly indicates how India is rich in culture and heritage. These are only official languages but there are many more languages exist in India since last centuries. The language panel of Indian Currency also depicts the ‘Unity in Diversity’. Following table shows how a rupee is written in different languages and pronounced in Marathi. Added small drop of knowledge by sharing this information.
